Unfortunately, many people purchase these birds for sport, they race them and make them fly hundreds or thousands of miles that burdens, shortens their lives, or causes death. After they no longer bring a profit they are either destroyed or set free and struggle to survive on their own. Often times these birds are damaged by having their wings or tails cut so that they will no longer be of value to anyone else. They are damaged or destroyed for selfish and needless reasons. Pigeons such as Kings, Fantails, Tumblers, Homers, Archangels, and Rollers are intelligent and gentile birds who have been selectively bred and tamed, while they cannot survive in the wild, they thrive as friendly pets with proper care and love that builds trust. Many doves, pigeons and other birds will wind up in animal shelters either surrendered or found as strays. We have determined that these beautiful creatures of God need a special sanctuary such as ours to survive.
